This bill requires the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and regional emergency medical services councils to update their pre-hospital care protocols and point-of-entry plans related to the assessment, treatment, and transport of stroke patients by licensed emergency medical services providers. The protocols must include criteria for triaging and transporting stroke patients who may have an emergent large vessel occlusion to the most appropriate facility that offers advanced neuroendovascular treatment within a specified timeframe. The Department is required to identify the facilities that meet the criteria to provide this specialized treatment. After January 1, 2023, the Department and councils must annually review and update the protocols and plans to ensure stroke patients are transported to the most appropriate facility.
