This bill provides for a lifetime, monthly allowance to Katherine M. McGuinness, the surviving spouse of former Massachusetts State Police officer James T. McGuinness. The allowance is equal to the amount she would have received if James T. McGuinness had elected the option (c) retirement benefit and nominated Katherine M. McGuinness as his sole surviving eligible beneficiary. The bill also requires the state retirement board to withhold a certain amount from the monthly payments to Katherine M. McGuinness during the first year to account for the difference between the amount James T. McGuinness received under the option (b) benefit and what he would have received under the option (c) benefit. The benefits provided to Katherine M. McGuinness under this act are in lieu of, and not in addition to, any other benefits she may have received from the state retirement board as James T. McGuinness' beneficiary.
