This bill proposes to amend Chapter 90 of the General Laws by striking Section 6 in its entirety and inserting a new section. The key provisions are: (1) every motor vehicle or trailer registered in Massachusetts must display its registration number plate at the rear of the vehicle, and if the registrar issues only one plate, it must be attached to the rear; (2) the number plate must be kept clean and legible, and the registration number must be illuminated at night; (3) only number plates authorized by the registrar may be displayed, except for vehicles registered in multiple states; and (4) if a number plate is lost or damaged, the owner can obtain a temporary plate until a replacement is issued.
