Bill Summary

Relative to Parkinson's disease disability and death of certain firefighters and other public safety officers in the contributory retirement plan for public employees. Public Service.

AI Summary

This bill amends the General Laws of Massachusetts to provide that any condition of impairment of health caused by Parkinson's disease, resulting in total or partial disability or death, shall be presumed to have been suffered in the line of duty for certain public safety officers, including firefighters and members of the state police assigned to the fire investigation unit or K9 unit. The presumption applies if the officer passed a physical examination on entry into the service and the condition was not revealed. The provisions of the bill apply to officers who have served in such positions for at least five years at the time the condition is first discovered, and the benefits are retroactive to the date the officer last received regular compensation.
