This bill establishes the Massachusetts Prisoner Bone Marrow Donation Program within the Department of Correction. Eligible prisoners who donate bone marrow can receive up to a 60-day reduction in their sentence, with the amount of bone marrow donated determined by a Bone Marrow Donation Committee. The committee, consisting of the Medical Director of the Department of Corrections, a bone marrow specialist from a Commonwealth hospital, and a representative of a bone marrow donation advocacy organization, is responsible for implementing and administering the program. All costs associated with the program will be covered by the benefiting institutions and their affiliates, not the Department of Correction, and there will be no commissions or monetary payments to the Department for the bone marrow donations.
