This bill aims to provide continuity of care for mental health treatment by amending existing laws. It introduces a new definition of "continuing course of treatment" to mean having at least one visit in the past four months for the same or similar mental health diagnosis or symptoms. Additionally, the bill requires health insurance carriers to allow patients engaged in a continuing course of treatment with a provider who is involuntarily or voluntarily disenrolled, other than for quality or fraud reasons, to continue treatment with that provider through an out-of-network option. The carrier must reimburse the provider at the usual network rate and cannot charge the patient additional costs or deductibles beyond a higher co-payment that reflects the increased costs of using an out-of-network provider.
