This bill aims to provide child exploitation awareness education in schools. It requires the advisory council on violence prevention to recommend a model curriculum for grades 2 through 8 that focuses on defining child exploitation, recognizing types of exploitation, and creating awareness of warning signs. School districts must incorporate this content into their existing health curriculum, and the Department of Education will provide age-appropriate educational materials to assist schools in preparing the instructional program. The bill also allows parents or guardians to review the instructional materials and opt-out their children from all or parts of the program if desired. Additionally, the bill mandates yearly certification and training for all educational staff and consultants on topics related to child sexual assault, sex offender profiles, healthy sexual behavior, and reporting requirements.
