This bill regulates central service technicians in Massachusetts. It requires health care facilities to only employ central service technicians who have passed a nationally accredited central service exam and hold a relevant credential, or were already employed as a central service technician by a health care facility before December 31, 2022. The bill also requires central service technicians to annually complete 10 hours of continuing education related to their functions. It allows certain health care professionals and students under supervision to perform central service technician tasks without the required credential. The Department of Public Health is directed to adopt regulations to carry out the provisions of this bill within 90 days, and the requirements will take effect 180 days after the bill's effective date.
