This bill establishes three key provisions to provide COVID-19 relief for college students in Massachusetts: 1. The Department of Transitional Assistance will create a financial welfare program to provide $500 to eligible undergraduate college students over 18 attending public and private institutions in the Commonwealth to ensure financial stability during the COVID-19 emergency. 2. The Department of Housing and Community Development will establish a housing program to provide rent assistance and forgiveness for undergraduate college students over 18 attending public and private institutions in the Commonwealth, regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation, to ensure secure housing during the COVID-19 emergency. 3. The Executive Office of Public Safety and Security will create a task force to defend and protect Asian-American college students from hate crimes and discrimination, working with local and campus police departments to develop best practices for prevention. These provisions will expire 180 days after the COVID-19 emergency declaration is lifted.
