This bill aims to strengthen protections for bank employees and customers. It does this by: 1. Allowing lawsuits related to actions taken under Section 40a of Chapter 93 (related to collecting fraudulent checks) to be brought in the court where either the plaintiff or defendant lives or has a place of business or employment. 2. Increasing the penalties for armed robberies of banks and credit unions, including minimum sentences of 5 years for a first offense and 15 years for subsequent offenses when a firearm or other deadly weapon is involved. 3. Increasing the penalty for unarmed robberies of banks and credit unions to imprisonment for life or at least 30 months. 4. Allowing larceny cases involving forged, altered, or counterfeit checks to be brought in the court where the uttering (passing the check) took place or where the payee bank's main office is located. 5. Allowing cases under Section 37 of Chapter 266 (related to fraudulent checks) to be brought in the court where the crime was committed or where the main office of the bank or other depository is located. The overall goal of the bill is to provide stronger legal tools and penalties to protect bank employees and customers from violent crimes and financial fraud.
