This bill amends the definition of "autocycle" in Massachusetts law and establishes new regulations for the registration, safety requirements, and licensing of autocycles. Specifically, it defines an autocycle as a three-wheeled motor vehicle with a steering wheel and seating that does not require the operator or passenger to straddle or sit astride it. The bill requires autocycles to be registered and issued a distinctive "Autocycle" registration plate, mandates the use of helmets and safety belts, and prohibits operation by anyone under 8 years old or under 57 inches tall. It also restricts operation to those with a valid driver's license, excluding those with only a motorcycle (Class M) license or learner's permit. The bill also grants the Registrar of Motor Vehicles authority to promulgate additional regulations for the titling, registration, and equipment standards of autocycles.
