This bill amends Chapter 258E of the Massachusetts General Laws to add three new sections. The key provisions are: 1. Upon issuing a temporary or emergency harassment prevention order, the court must order the immediate suspension and surrender of the defendant's license to carry firearms and firearms, as well as order the defendant to surrender all firearms, rifles, shotguns, machine guns, and ammunition. Law enforcement officials must take possession of these items. Violating this order can result in a fine of up to $5,000 or imprisonment of up to 2.5 years. 2. Upon continuation or modification of a harassment prevention order, the court can also order the suspension and surrender of the defendant's license to carry firearms and firearms if the court determines this is necessary to prevent harassment of the plaintiff. 3. The court must transmit a report containing the defendant's information and the order details to the Department of Criminal Justice Information Services, which will then transmit the report to the Attorney General's office to be included in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System.
