This bill clarifies the charitable purposes of certain organizations. Specifically, it amends the General Laws to state that it shall not constitute a defense to a tort action against a charitable organization that the organization is or was a charity, provided that the tort was committed in the course of activities directly related to the organization's charitable purposes and it derives more than 50% of its income from charitable gifts or donations, or if the organization has been established primarily for religious purposes. In such cases, the liability in the tort action shall not exceed $20,000, excluding interest and costs.
