This bill establishes a special commission to study the feasibility of incorporating conductive concrete, a concrete compound containing steel shavings and carbon particles that can melt ice and snow, in future public works projects such as roads and sidewalks. The commission, in cooperation with the University of Massachusetts School of Engineering and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will examine the cost, feasibility, effectiveness, and potential cost savings of using conductive concrete. The commission is required to submit its recommendations and any proposed legislation to the state legislature by December 1, 2022.
