This bill establishes public safety employee COVID-19 death benefits. The key provision is that Section 100A of Chapter 32 of the Massachusetts law, which provides death benefits for public safety employees who die in the line of duty, will now apply to public safety employees who die as a direct result of COVID-19. However, this benefit will not apply if the employee performed no line of duty activity in the 20 days before their COVID-19 diagnosis or positive test, or if the employee was not immunized against COVID-19, unless they had medical conditions preventing immunization or the vaccines were not authorized for emergency use at the time of their death.
