This bill amends the General Laws of Massachusetts to expand the retirement options for certain educational personnel. Specifically, it allows members of contributory retirement systems other than the teachers' retirement system or the State-Boston retirement system, who transfer into those systems as teachers, to elect to participate in the alternative superannuation retirement benefit program within 180 days of joining. It also expands the definition of "teacher" to include school nurses, social workers, early childhood teachers, speech/occupational/physical therapists, and school business administrators, allowing them to also participate in the alternative retirement program if they meet the 20-year service requirement. Additionally, the bill provides a 180-day window for eligible members who were previously eligible but did not elect the alternative program to do so, with the provision that they pay back contributions plus interest.
