This bill requires health insurance plans in Massachusetts to provide coverage for the hospital or ambulatory center charges and administration of general anesthesia administered by a licensed anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist for dental procedures performed on certain individuals, including children 7 years of age or younger who are unable to receive needed dental treatment in an outpatient setting, children 12 years of age or younger with documented phobias or mental illness, and individuals with exceptional medical circumstances or a developmental disability. The coverage may be subject to prior authorization and may be restricted to dental care provided by certain specialists. The bill applies to all health insurance policies offered, issued, or renewed on or after the effective date.
