This bill aims to reduce healthcare costs by promoting non-biased prescriber education. It directs the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission to develop and implement an evidence-based outreach and education program for physicians, podiatrists, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals authorized to prescribe and dispense prescription drugs. The program will provide face-to-face visits with prescribers, using evidence-based materials and techniques, to inform them about drug marketing practices and promote the use of generic or therapeutically-equivalent pharmaceutical alternatives. The commission will also undertake a public education initiative on clinical trials and drug safety, and may collect fees for subscriptions and contracts related to this program.
