This bill requires prescription drug insurance providers in Massachusetts to cover the cost of medically prescribed voice synthesizers for individuals who are legally blind, visually impaired, or have a condition where audible information is preferable to written information. The bill defines a "voice synthesizer" as a product that attaches to prescription drug containers and reads the textual information encoded on the label aloud. The Commissioner of the Division of Insurance is required to adopt regulations to implement and provide information about this new coverage requirement within 90 days of the bill's effective date. Additionally, the bill allows individuals, public or private institutions, businesses, or other organizations that regularly provide services to disabled persons to inform them about the availability of these voice synthesizers.
