This bill requires gas or electric companies to notify residential customers prior to discontinuing their service. The notification methods include certified mail, email, and telephone calls, and if those are unsuccessful, the company must make a personal visit to the residence. If the company is unable to notify the customer using any of these methods, it must notify the local police department before discontinuing the service. The bill also imposes a $500 penalty on the gas or electric company for each violation of these notification requirements.
