A BILL To amend the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 and title 5, United States Code, to permit leave to care for a domestic partner, parent-in-law, or adult child, or another related individual, who has a serious health condition, and to allow employees to take, as additional leave, parental involvement and family wellness leave to participate in or attend their children’s and grand- children’s educational and extracurricular activities or meet family care needs, and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill, the Family Medical Leave Modernization Act, would amend the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and federal employee leave laws to expand the definition of family members for whom an employee can take leave to care for. It would include domestic partners, in-laws, adult children, grandparents, grandchildren, and other close relatives or individuals with a family-like relationship to the employee. The bill would also create a new category of "parental involvement and family wellness leave" to allow employees to take additional leave to participate in their children's and grandchildren's activities or to meet family care needs. The leave would be limited to 4 hours per 30-day period and 24 hours per 12-month period.
