This bill expands the description of unfair insurance claim settlement practices in New York. It amends the insurance law to prohibit insurers from submitting reasonably rendered claims to the independent dispute resolution process, artificially deflating or lowering cost data used for adjusted claims, or using cost data that is not appropriate for the region where the loss occurred. The bill also prohibits insurers from requiring or requesting that individuals or entities deny or promote the denial of a certain number or percentage of claims, or cancel or promote the cancellation of a certain number or percentage of policies, within a given period of time.
