This bill authorizes the town of Wales to establish a department of public works. It allows the select board to appoint a public works director, who will have the powers and duties of town road commissioners and oversee the town's public works operations. The bill also grants the department of public works additional operational powers, such as park and recreation maintenance and building and grounds maintenance. Additionally, the elected office of road commissioner will be abolished, and the incumbent will serve as the first appointed road commissioner until the director is appointed. All existing contracts, liabilities, records, property, and equipment of the road commissioner's office will transfer to the new department of public works. The bill takes effect upon passage.
