This bill creates the New York state public sector employee loan forgiveness program for graduates of the State University of New York (SUNY) or City University of New York (CUNY) who are employed in a state or local public sector position. The program provides up to $5,000 per year in student loan forgiveness for eligible applicants, for a maximum of 10 years or the total remaining balance of the applicant's student loan debt, whichever is less. The bill also authorizes the corporation administering the program to promulgate rules and regulations, including emergency regulations, to implement the program.
