This bill permits the Brentwood Fire District, a not-for-profit organization, to file a retroactive application for a property tax exemption for the 2020-2021 assessment roll for a specific parcel located in the Town of Islip. The assessor of the Town of Islip is authorized to accept and review this application as if it had been filed by the appropriate taxable status dates. If the assessor, with the approval of the town's governing body, determines that the Brentwood Fire District would have been entitled to the exemption had it filed the application on time, the assessor may grant the exemption and, if the organization has already paid the taxes, the town may refund those taxes or cancel any remaining unpaid taxes, fines, penalties, or interest.
