This bill amends the executive law and the public authorities law to require food service establishments to ensure that their grease traps and interceptors are designed to withstand expected loads and prevent unauthorized access. The bill authorizes the state fire prevention and building code council to promulgate rules and regulations, including the design of the grease traps and interceptors, and allows local governments to enforce the provisions of this section. It also gives public water and sewer authorities the power to regulate and inspect exterior manhole covers containing grease traps or interceptors to prevent unauthorized access.
