This bill amends the retirement and social security law to provide a performance of duty disability retirement allowance to any sheriff, deputy sheriff, undersheriff, or correction officer employed in Nassau County who becomes physically or mentally incapacitated due to an injury sustained as a result of an intentional or reckless act by a civilian visiting or present at an institution under the jurisdiction of the county. The bill specifies that the benefits provided will be equal to those in section 63 of the retirement and social security law, and that the provisions of the bill will not be subject to section 25 of the law. The bill also requires that all past service costs associated with implementing the provisions be borne by Nassau County and may be amortized over a 10-year period.
