This bill, the DHS Medical Countermeasures Act, amends the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to establish a medical countermeasures program within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The program aims to facilitate personnel readiness and protection for DHS employees and working animals in the event of a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosives attack, disease outbreak, or pandemic, and to support DHS mission continuity. The Chief Medical Officer will provide oversight of the program, including developing Department-wide standards, maintaining a stockpile of medical countermeasures, prepositioning them nationwide, providing training, and supporting dispensing exercises. The Chief Medical Officer is also required to develop an integrated logistics support plan for medical countermeasures, including determining the types and quantities to stockpile.
