This bill amends sections 3301.079, 3314.03, and 3326.11 and enacts sections 3313.6027, 3313.6028, and 3313.6029 of the Revised Code regarding the teaching of certain current events and concepts related to race and sex in public schools. Key provisions include: - Prohibiting state agencies, school districts, or school administrations from requiring teachers to discuss current events or controversial issues, while encouraging teachers to explore such issues from diverse perspectives. - Prohibiting schools from requiring student involvement in lobbying, advocacy, or similar activities related to social or public policy as part of a course. - Prohibiting the teaching of certain concepts related to race and sex, such as the inherent superiority of a race or sex, that individuals bear responsibility for actions of others of the same race or sex, or that merit-based traits are racist or sexist. - Providing that courses including these prohibited concepts shall not count towards high school graduation requirements. - Prohibiting the requirement that teachers affirm beliefs about systemic racism or fluid gender identities that conflict with their religious or philosophical convictions.
