This bill, the Lead-Safe Housing for Kids Act of 2021, amends the Lead-Based Paint Poisoning Prevention Act to establish additional procedures for families with children under the age of 6 living in federally-assisted housing constructed before 1978. The key provisions include: 1) requiring owners to conduct an initial risk assessment for lead-based paint hazards within 15 days of a family with a child under 6 moving in or a physical inspection, and to control any identified hazards within 30 days; 2) providing exceptions to the risk assessment requirement in certain cases; and 3) allowing families with a child under 6 to relocate on an emergency basis if lead hazards are identified but not controlled. The bill also authorizes appropriations for fiscal years 2022 through 2026 to carry out these amendments.
