This Resolution formally commends TaKiyah Wallace-McMillian and her organization, Brown Girls Do Ballet, for their significant contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly within the ballet community in Tarrant County and beyond. Brown Girls Do Ballet, a nonprofit organization, actively promotes diversity in the arts by offering annual scholarships, a mentor network, and community programs designed to empower young girls, including financial aid through its Small Studio Grant and scholarship program, support for pointe shoes, and a supply closet for dancers affected by natural disasters. The organization also works to increase awareness and participation of underrepresented groups in ballet through various events and campaigns. The Resolution acknowledges Ms. Wallace-McMillian's background as a former teacher and television host, her entrepreneurial endeavors, and her academic achievements, recognizing her passion and dedication for making a positive and lasting impact on young girls and serving as an inspiring example of community engagement.
