This bill amends the Public Officers Law to change the dates by which the governor can make a proclamation for a special election to fill certain offices. The bill provides that the governor shall make a proclamation for a special election within 10 days of a vacancy occurring, with the special election to be held 70-80 days from the proclamation for a vacancy in the office of a representative in Congress, or 40-50 days from the proclamation for a vacancy in any other office. The bill also establishes that a special election shall not be held to fill a vacancy in any other office subject to a proclamation by the governor unless the vacancy occurs before the first day of April of the last year of the term of office.
