This bill amends the Code of Criminal Procedure to provide sentencing guidelines for discharging a firearm at a motor vehicle. Specifically, it adds two new felonies to the list covered in the chapter: (1) Discharging a firearm at an occupied motor vehicle, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, and (2) Discharging a firearm at a motor vehicle occupied by a minor, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. The bill also includes an enacting clause that delays the effective date of the amendments until 90 days after enactment, and ties the effectiveness of the bill to the enactment of a separate bill, House Bill 5030.
