This bill, the Elder Abuse Protection Act of 2021, amends the Elder Abuse Prevention and Prosecution Act to establish a permanent Elder Justice Initiative within the Department of Justice. The initiative will coordinate criminal enforcement and public engagement efforts to combat elder abuse, neglect, and financial fraud targeting the elderly. The bill also requires the Initiative to designate an Elder Justice Coordinator, maintain and publish online resources in Spanish to help prevent elder abuse and fraud, and establish a national elder fraud telephone hotline. Additionally, the Coordinator will provide recommendations to the Office of Tribal Justice on addressing elder abuse and fraud on tribal reservations, and promote the provision of civil legal aid to elder abuse and fraud victims.
