This bill, the PFAS Filthy Fifty Act, requires the Secretary of Defense to conduct testing, removal, and remediation of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at all military installations, formerly used defense sites, and state-owned National Guard facilities in the United States. The bill sets deadlines for the Secretary to complete PFAS testing (within 2 years), removal actions (within 60 days of detection), and remediation (within 10 years). It also specifies that removal and remediation actions must meet the most stringent applicable state or federal standards for PFAS in environmental media. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary to report on the status of PFAS remediation efforts at 50 priority locations and complete construction at those sites within 5 years. The bill authorizes $10 billion in appropriations to the Department of Defense to carry out these requirements.
