This bill directs the Secretary of Transportation to enter into an agreement with the National Academy of Sciences to conduct a study on the current federal requirements for pipeline facility design, siting, construction, operation, maintenance, and integrity management, specifically as they relate to seismicity, land subsidence, landslides, slope instability, frost heave, soil settlement, erosion, and other dynamic geologic conditions that may pose a safety risk. The study will identify any discrepancies in the requirements that apply to operators of gas pipeline facilities and hazardous liquid pipeline facilities, as well as any deficiencies in industry practices related to these requirements. The National Academy of Sciences will then submit a report with its findings and recommendations to the Secretary of Transportation and relevant congressional committees.
