This bill relates to a one-time supplemental payment of benefits under the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS). The bill requires TRS to make a one-time supplemental payment to eligible annuitants, up to $2,400, by January 2022. To be eligible, the annuitant must have been receiving a standard retirement annuity, optional retirement annuity, life annuity, guaranteed period annuity, or alternate payee annuity as of December 2020. The supplemental payment is in addition to the regular monthly annuity payment and is subject to the legislature appropriating sufficient funds to TRS to provide the payment.
