This bill, the Oral Health Literacy and Awareness Act of 2021, amends the Public Health Service Act to authorize a public education campaign across all relevant programs of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to increase oral health literacy and awareness. The campaign will focus on evidence-based strategies for oral health care education, including prevention of oral diseases like early childhood and other cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer. The campaign will target specific populations, such as children, pregnant women, the elderly, and racial/ethnic minority groups, in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. The bill also requires the Secretary to measure the outcomes and effectiveness of the campaign and submit a report to Congress within 3 years of enactment. $750,000 is authorized to be appropriated for each fiscal year from 2022 to 2026 to carry out the provisions of this bill.
