Bill Summary

A BILL To withhold United States contributions to the United Na- tions Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and for other purposes.

AI Summary

This bill, the UNRWA Accountability and Transparency Act, proposes to withhold U.S. contributions to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) unless the Secretary of State can certify that no UNRWA official or entity has ties to terrorist organizations, engages in anti-American, anti-Israel, or anti-Semitic rhetoric or activities, or uses UNRWA resources for terrorist purposes. The bill also limits U.S. contributions to UNRWA to be no greater than the highest contribution from a member country of the League of Arab States. Additionally, the bill requires the Secretary of State to report on efforts to encourage other countries to adopt the bill's policy on defining Palestinian refugees and to work towards phasing out UNRWA and integrating or resettling Palestinians receiving its services.
