This bill, the Clean Hydrogen Energy Act, aims to accelerate the research, development, demonstration, and deployment of hydrogen from clean energy sources. It does this by: 1) Defining "clean hydrogen" as hydrogen produced with a carbon intensity equal to or less than 2 kilograms of carbon dioxide-equivalent per kilogram of hydrogen. 2) Establishing a clean hydrogen research and development program to advance the use of clean hydrogen across various sectors, including transportation, industry, and residential/commercial heating. 3) Creating a program to support the development of at least 4 regional clean hydrogen hubs that demonstrate the production, processing, delivery, storage, and end-use of clean hydrogen. 4) Directing the Department of Energy to develop a national clean hydrogen strategy and roadmap to facilitate widespread clean hydrogen production and use. 5) Authorizing funding for clean hydrogen manufacturing, recycling, and electrolysis research and development. The overall goal is to help establish a domestic clean hydrogen economy by supporting technological advancements, infrastructure development, and the transition to clean hydrogen across different applications.
