This bill provides a one-time payment for certain state-employed essential workers in Texas. It defines "eligible essential state employees" as state employees who were designated as essential critical infrastructure workers during the COVID-19 pandemic period from March 13, 2020, to September 13, 2021. The bill sets the payment amount at the lesser of $2 per hour worked during that period or $8,000 per eligible employee. The Comptroller, in consultation with the Legislative Budget Board and State Auditor's Office, will establish the process to determine eligibility and distribute the payments, which will be funded by federal Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds. The bill expires on February 1, 2024.
