This bill requires the Department of Education to collaborate with the newly established Florida Institute for Charter School Innovation (the Institute) at Miami Dade College in developing a framework to evaluate charter school sponsors. The bill establishes the Institute to improve charter school authorizing practices in the state, including creating resources for best practices, providing training and support to sponsors, conducting research, and disseminating information. The bill also authorizes the Institute to apply for and receive grants, and directs the Miami Dade College Board of Trustees to establish policies for the supervision, administration, and governance of the Institute. Finally, the bill appropriates $1 million in recurring funds from the General Revenue Fund to Miami Dade College to create and implement the Institute.
