This bill establishes a special legislative commission to conduct an audit and investigation into gun violence prevention funding in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The commission will consist of members from grassroots and community-based gun violence organizations and will examine various funding sources, including those from the Massachusetts Office for Victim Assistance, the Senator Charles E. Shannon, Jr. Community Safety Initiative, the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative, youth-at-risk and primary violence prevention programs, and the Neighborhood-Based Gun and Violent Crime Prevention Pilot Program. The commission will also identify the communities most impacted by gun violence and where the funds have been expended to address the issue. The commission will submit a report detailing its findings and recommendations, including whether the Neighborhood-Based Gun and Violent Crime Prevention Pilot Program should be made a permanent program or re-established in another department.
