This bill, the "End Gun Violence Act of 2021," amends federal law to prohibit the sale or other disposition of any firearm or ammunition to any person who has been convicted of a violent misdemeanor within the preceding 5 years. The bill defines a "violent misdemeanor" as a misdemeanor offense that involves the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force or a deadly weapon, the intent to cause physical injury, or knowingly causing physical injury. The bill also makes conforming amendments to related laws, such as the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act and the NICS Improvement Amendments Act of 2007, to ensure consistent application of the new prohibition. The amendments made by this bill will not apply to convictions occurring before the date that is 6 months after the date of enactment, and the bill clarifies that it does not alter existing requirements or have a limiting effect on state or tribal laws.
