Bill Summary
Allowing humane transportation of K9 partners aka Nero's law
AI Summary
This bill, known as Nero's Law, allows emergency medical services (EMS) personnel to provide emergency treatment and transport to police dogs injured in the line of duty. It requires the Department of Public Health to develop policies and procedures for the appropriate training of EMS personnel, safe handling of injured police dogs, identification of veterinary facilities that can provide emergency treatment, and decontamination of EMS vehicles after transporting a police dog. The bill also provides immunity from liability for EMS personnel who, in good faith, render emergency aid or transport to an injured police dog. Additionally, it amends the state's medical practice laws to include the provision of care to an injured police dog by an EMS provider as a lawful activity.
