Bill Summary
AN ACT To require a strategy by the United States Government to disrupt and dismantle the Captagon trade and nar- cotics networks of Bashar al-Assad in Syria.
AI Summary
This bill, known as the CAPTAGON Act, requires the U.S. government to develop and implement an interagency strategy to disrupt and dismantle the narcotics production and trafficking networks linked to the regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria. The strategy will target and degrade these networks through diplomatic and intelligence support, the use of relevant statutory authorities, global diplomatic engagements, leveraging multilateral institutions, and a public awareness campaign. The bill also requires an assessment of the counter-narcotics capacity of countries receiving or transiting large shipments of Captagon, a synthetic amphetamine, and an evaluation of current U.S. assistance and training programs to build such capacity in these countries.
