This bill allows pharmacists to prescribe and dispense certain hormonal contraceptive products, such as contraceptive patches, self-administered contraceptives, and vaginal ring contraceptives, to individuals regardless of age and without requiring a prior prescription from another healthcare provider. The bill requires the Department of Health, in consultation with the Board of Pharmacy, to develop rules for this new pharmacist prescribing authority, including requiring pharmacists to complete a training program, provide a self-screening risk assessment tool to patients, and refer patients to their primary care providers. The bill also makes various other amendments to the Public Health Code related to pharmacy practice.
