This bill modifies the requirements for health insurers to cover healthcare services provided through telemedicine. It prohibits insurers from requiring in-person contact for services that can be appropriately provided through telemedicine, and from excluding coverage solely because the service was provided via telemedicine. The bill also requires insurers to cover the cost of telemedicine services on the same basis and to the same extent as in-person services, and to reimburse providers for telemedicine services at the same rate as in-person services. Insurers may offer policies with deductibles, copayments, or coinsurance for telemedicine services, as long as they do not exceed those for in-person services. The bill also sets requirements for the qualifications of telemedicine providers and the applicability of the new provisions to health insurance policies in Michigan.
