This bill amends the Health Occupations article of the Maryland laws to address the role of licensed direct-entry midwives in providing care to patients with a previous cesarean section. The key provisions are: 1. Except as provided in the new Section 86C04, licensed direct-entry midwives are prohibited from providing care to patients with a previous cesarean section. 2. Section 86C04 is updated to allow licensed direct-entry midwives to provide care to patients with a single previous low transverse cesarean section, performed at least 18 months prior to the expected due date, if the midwife consults with a healthcare practitioner and documents the consultation. 3. The bill requires licensed direct-entry midwives to obtain a specific informed consent agreement from patients with a previous cesarean section before providing care, in addition to the standard informed consent agreement. 4. The bill takes effect on October 1, 2022.
