AI Summary

This bill, known as the "Dorothy L. Hukill Financial Literacy Act," revises the high school graduation requirements in Florida to include a new one-half credit course in personal financial literacy and money management. Starting with students entering grade 9 in the 2022-2023 school year, this course will cover topics such as managing bank accounts, credit and debt, taxes, insurance, and other personal finance concepts. The bill also requires the inclusion of financial literacy standards in the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards. Additionally, it reduces the required elective credits from eight to seven and a half for students entering grade 9 in 2022-2023 and beyond, with the new personal finance course counting as a half-credit elective. This legislation aims to better prepare high school students in Florida with essential personal finance skills for their future.
